More than 150,000 jobs have been saved or created due to the Economic Stimulus Plan, The White House claims in a report issued tonight. The report compares actual unemployment with unemployment levels projected had the Stimulus Package not been put into place. The report also projects an additional 600,000 jobs being created in the next 100 days due to the plan, which Vice President Biden says is on track to save or create 3.5 million new jobs in the next 15 months.Top 5 States with Largest Decrease in Layoffs in April

Mass Layoffs Recede in April
In more signs of a stabilizing economy, the Bureau of Labor Statistics today released its April Mass Layoffs data, showing that fewer employers implemented mass layoffs in April compared to the month prior. 2,712 employers reported mass layoffs in April, down from 2,933 in March and 2,769 in February. Industries contributing to the reversal include manufacturing, retail, and wholesale, while industries that increased layoffs include administration/waste services, construction and accommodation/food services.44 States Show Little Change in Unemployment
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported its regional employment figures this morning, showing 21 states with a decrease in unemployment rates, 11 with unchanged unemployment rates, and 12 with only a marginal change during the month of April. Regionally, the Northeast reported the lowest unemployment rate throughout the country at just 7.9%, compared to an 8.9% national average. Michigan topped the charts with a 12.9% unemployment rate, tied largely to the struggling US automotive industry. South Carolina and Rhode Island fall close behind with rates of 11.5% and 11.1%, respectively. States with the lowest unemployment rates include North Dakota (4.0%), Nebraska (4.4%), and Wyoming (4.5%).Employee confidence rises among New York workers
Results of a new Harris Interactive poll released today indicates an increase in confidence among workers surveyed in New York. To cite the specific results of the New York Employment Report:
- Forty-six percent of workers surveyed believe that the economy is getting weaker, a decrease of 26 percentage points from March.
- Fewer workers, 36 percent, report that they are confident in their ability to find a new job, an 11-percentage-point decrease from the previous month.
- Two-thirds of workers (66 percent) are concerned about losing their job, a decrease of eight percentage points from March.
